MK Peace & Security Seminar

The Center for Security Policy Studies-Korea (CSPS-K) organized and sponsored the MK Peace & Security Seminar on December 6, 2024, as a part of GLOA 396-K01 course “Peace & Cooperation in Northeast Asia.” Students presented their research findings as the final outcome of the course based on various class contents that they have studied throughout the semester including academic journals, contemporary policy discussions from experts, and more.

In the first session, “Regional Cooperation in Northeast Asia,” they suggested ways to foster cooperation in the region based on various scales and types of institutions and wider concepts of security. The second session, themed “US-China Rivalry and Security in Northeast Asia,” focused on the effects of the Great Power rivalry on respective countries in the region and suggested how to deal with the rapid changes.

The presentations were followed by a panel discussion with CSPS-K senior and honorary fellows who are working in the field. They suggested presenters constructive and critical feedback and points to move way forward in the future. The seminar provided students with a great opportunity to experience real academic discourse and further develop ideas about the peace and cooperation in the Northeast Asia region.

CSPS-Korea fellows extend our sincere gratitude to Dr. Soyoung Kwon who initiated this event and let students have this valuable opportunity, CSPS-K fellows who put tremendous time and effort into organizing this event, senior and honorary fellows who willingly accepted our invitation to become discussants, and presenters who shared their findings with careful preparation.
