2021 CSPS-Korea Symposium: Human Security in the Gray Zone: North Korean Defectors and Their Children

The Center for Security Policy Studies-Korea (CSPS-K) conducted a 2021 CSPS-Korea Annual Symposium, <Human Security in the Gray Zone: North Korean Defectors and Their Children> on 26 May 2021. The symposium addressed the unprotected rights of the children born in the third country, efforts made by NGOs and international organizations, and the further steps needed to be taken by the international community.

Session 2 titled “Mother’s experience and Child’s experience” invited North Korean women, individuals from non-governmental agencies that advocate the human security of the defectors as well as prominent scholars in the field to share their first-hand experiences and expertise.

Session 3 titled “The Rights for a Better Life” invited former United Nations Ambassador Joon Oh and Representative ad interim of UNOHCHR Korea to listen to their insights on the role of international organizations and non-governmental organizations in better addressing the issue with an ultimate aim to find feasible policy options.

The symposium ended successfully, having more than 140 participants in person and via zoom. We would like to thank everyone who has supported the event.
