Dr. Soyoung Kwon, Director of CSPS Korea, participated as a discussant for the Jeju Peace Institute’s (JPI) online conference series “Webinar series: The 2020 U.S. Presidential Election”. This webinar, organized together with Schar School of Policy and Government at George Mason University, consists of four sessions held over the course of two months. In this webinar participants discussed key individuals involved, the possible outcomes of the 2020 U.S. Presidential Elections, and how different individuals and nations will react to the results.

Director Kwon participated in the 3rd session of the series where participants discussed about the prospects and implications of the 2020 U.S Presidential Elections. During the seminar Director Kwon said that even though foreign issues is not the primary issue for the American voters the candidate’s view point on global world order would be pretty significant. She even further explained why the results of the 2020 U.S. Presidential Election matter for other foreign nations such as South Korea, North Korea, China, and even Russia. She remarked that some other continues might even hope for Trump to continue his presidency because they might prefer “the devil you know than the devil you don’t.” Director Kwon continued on by saying “… most of the western nations and the allies would like to see some change because since Trump thinks and acts beyond the conventional framework of politics, diplomacy and foreign relations which make it very difficult to build up trust and credibility of United States.”
