I-SEC Course Sampler for Prospective Students

Check out information about course samplers for prospective students!

Do you want to see what kinds of things you’d be studying as a master’s student in one of our programs?  Course Samplers are a special opportunity for prospective graduate students to experience a part of class.  Prospective students are welcome to attend any session that might be of interest.

International Security (I-SEC) Course Sampler
Topic: “Ethics and National Security.”

One of the core courses in the I-SEC Program concerns the ethical dimensions of a broad range of national security issues, including the constitutional requirement of civilian control of the military, presidential commander-in-chief authority versus the congressional authority to declare war, coercive interrogation, national security surveillance, potential politicization of intelligence, national security decision making, the use of drones outside of hot battlefields, among other issues.  The course builds on philosophical foundations of personal ethics and just war theory and applies these concepts to historical and contemporary case studies.
